Westminster Hall of Shame

September 14th, 2009

A tribute to those cheap businesses that can’t afford a stamp but can afford to litter our neighborhood with crap paper flyers and cards stuffed into the box below our mailboxes. If your name is mentioned below and you promise to stop I will remove your name from this list.

9/14/09 – Katheryn Key of KeyBoard Productions thinks that using a mailbox flag to hold her flyers is cute. It’s illegal! As far as I know Katheryn Key is violating federal law. Next time she will get reported.

4/22/09 – Adept Exterminating Company Inc is adept at being cheap. Can’t afford a stamp. Gives a coupon good for %20 off any estimate, but reserves the right to refuse any estimate. You really have to trust exterminating companies because it’s virtually impossible to tell how good a job they do. If they aren’t in business when their termite control has failed, where do you go? Think of termite extermination policies as more like an insurance policy not as a lawn treatment policy. Would you trust the long term health of your house with someone that can’t afford a professional sales approach? Not me.

3/30/09 – Cleancut Carpet Care offers to “pick-up” your Oriental rug. But if they can’t afford stamps and next go bankrupt what happens to your rug then?

3/5/09 – Special thanks to Terri Layden for sending a USPS note to the neighborhood saying she is not going to send out flyers to blow around the neighborhood and waste trees. I will take some credit for making this happen. Give her a chance and mention this website!

8/22/08 – Kathryn Key – KeyBoard Productions – Put on mailbox flag. An illegal act, I think.

8/4/08 Terri Layden again! – More pink flyers spread over the neighborhood!

8/1/08 – McKeel Contracting Inc. left a bright green flyer. Apparently they think cheap bright colors and tempting “FREE Estimates” will get us to over look their inability to afford a stamp or a paid ad. Instead of doing jobs they have time to drive around wasting gas, polluting and littering our neighborhood. Oh, and they have no physical address listed, just a P.O. Box. Doesn’t a P.O. box mean you don’t want people to know where you are? Wonder why they feel that way?

7/26/08 Zuma’s Martial Arts left their cheap flyer. Showed a man raising his leg in front of the USA flag. What’s up with that?

7/23/08 Diverse Technical Services LLC – Joseph Pruitte – Littered the neighborhood with bright red/pink home printed flyers. He says no job is too big or small. He must mean he can spread his trash over big or little neighborhoods? If that’s something you need then you may want to contact him.

6/25/08 SHED123 – They just finished building a shed for a neighbor so that gave them the right to litter the neighborhood with their fliers.

6/2/08 Terri Layden – (terri.layden@longandfoster.com) She is back, see below for previous littering. Will she never quit spreading her junk around the neighborhood? She is no longer calling herself the resident realtor. Just as well since she points out in bold type a neighbors house is being foreclosed. Maybe if you buy a house from her and run in to bad luck she will happily tell the world of your misfortune also! Make sure to avoid doing business with her and her company Long & Foster.

2/12/08 2/13/08 – Nancy Stewart of Century 21 Nachman Realty put a flyer touting her latest listing. The next day she corrected the address. She had the wrong address on her own listing! It was the bad karma from littering the neighborhood with her junk. Gee, I hope she doesn’t put the wrong price on the sales contracts she writes for her customers? Any real estate person that doesn’t put a stamp on a letter they think I should have is either taking advantage of our neighborhood or not doing well enough to afford a stamp. My guess is a bit of both.

1/7/08 The Talking Phone Book – Another phone book dumped in my yard! Tis the season I guess. Avoid all businesses in this book.

1/5/08 Terri Layden – (terri.layden@longandfoster.com) Calls herself the resident realtor but does not print her home address. Probably because she doesn’t want others dumping these crap fliers in her mailbox post! Make sure to avoid doing business with her and her company Long & Foster. Nearly all her listings have reduced price or sold for less than initial price. Not a good sign.

1/5/08 W & W Building Contractors “Don’t be afraid to call.” Hummm… 757-876-3751 Williamsburg

1/4/08 Your Hometown Phonebook – Dumped in driveway! Why can companies dump trash in our yards? Why would any responsible company advertise with a company like this? Avoid a business you find in this book, too many to list.

12/06/07 M.A.G. Signature Stone LLC. Marc Gresham Owner left a a 3×5 card advertising “STONE”.

12/06/07 – Andrea Kostoff Sarina (a Williamsburg real estate agent) left a copy of “Andrea’s News You Can Use” newsletter. More useless information. She did include some of her own listing statistics showing her listings consistently sell for LESS than listing price. Does she do a poor job on valuation or marketing?

11/21/07 – Andrea Kostoff Sarina (a Williamsburg real estate agent) left a copy of “Andrea’s News You Can Use” newsletter. There was some useful information but just copied directly from the internet without giving sources or links. Like this. Since it’s dated November 2007 we can only hope to expose the December issue also. Perhaps it could be delivered on Tuesday at 7am and put directly in the recycle bin to save me the trip?

11/1/07 – Bill Thrall (a Williamsburg real estate agent) left a cheap flyer, stapled to his business card, with 36 houses for sale in such small and blurry print they could barely be read. Surely no one would want such a cheap representation of their house for sale, would they?
